Ms Tang Yuan-ha Wins Award for Best Artist (Xiqu)
|
Jingkun Theatre joyfully announce that Ms Tang Yuen-ha, our Artistic Director, has won the “Award for Best Artist (Xiqu)” 2008. Such award aims to honour artists of different disciplines for their outstanding artistic achievments.
Over the years, Ms Tang Yuen-ha devoted herself completely in the development and education of the art of Jingju and Kunqu. In the year 2007/08, Ms Tang was invited to conduct demonstration lectures and workshops in the Australian National University, where teachers and students were amazed by the charm of this traditional art form. In the same year, JK represented Hong Kong in the 3rd Paris Festival of Traditional Chinese Opera and was awarded the Prix Special du Jury ( Special Jury Prize ) for its excellent performance of The House Wulong.

The panelists of the Arts Development Award commented that Ms Tang Yuen-ha demonstrates in her works the knowledge, skill and artistry of a jingju and kunqu maestro. Despite the constraints in resources, Ms Tang performs and perfects an ever-expanding and updated repertoire with the dedication of a consummate profession. She also has remarkable achievements in promoting Chinese Opera to audiences all over the world

Peking and Kunqu Opera Lecture Series
|
|
Jingkun Theatre (JK) held six lectures on Peking and Kunqu Opera in June 2009. The series were kicked off by Ms Tang Yuen-ha, the Artistic Director of JK, with a lecture about the relationship of Chinese Culture / Philosophy and Jingkun performance arts. The second lecture was a conversation with Mr Geng Tianyuan, the Resident Director of JK, on the Aesthetics of Jingju and Kunqu. The lecture series was highlighted by two sessions on Kunqu singing and music, with Ms Zhou Xuehua, the 6th successor of Mr Ye Tang, the Kunqu Master in the Qing Dynasty. Ms Tang and Mr Geng shared with the audience about the process of putting the script onto the stage. The lectures were well-responded.
